The members of the Curling Club of Virginia, and their families, converged at the Woodlake Pavilion today for their annual meeting. It was a great day filled with a mix of fun, food, awards and official business.
We had a fantastic turnout including some of our most seasons curlers as well as our new additions. Changes were made to our board and then individual members were recognized for the contribution to the league.
Sam Sparks was awarded the “Most Improved Curler” prize, Jeanne Croteau was recognized as “Volunteer of the Year.” Rich Collins was given credit as “Outstanding League Coordinator” while Pam Kemp was thanked for her “Service to the Board” and Brent Cooke’s efforts as our president were appreciated.
Here are some photos from the event.
The playoffs have ended and this year’s best team is Team Walters (Team F)! It’s been a really fun season and we all congratulate them on having such a successful season.
The night was intense but it wasn’t just about game play. The high heat and humidity made for a very slippery night with several people wiping out on the ice. In the end, all teams were able to finish.
Team Walters, led this week by spare, Curtis Sirles, came back from quite a deficit to defeat Team Collins. Ironically, the only other game Team Collins lost this season was also against a team led by Sirles.
With Walters and Collins in the first and second spots, respectively, third place went to Team Hamilton.
The Mid-Atlantic Women’s Bonspiel is being held at the Philadelphia Curling Club on October 3-6, 2013. We have been invited to register for this fun event.
This is the 9th time this annual event, dubbed Cinco de R-Octobre, is being held.
The $240 registration fee guarantees three games and great perks including Philly Phantastic Food and a Team Margarita competition.
It sounds like this would be an incredibly fun event for our lady curlers. For more information, visit www.philadelphiacurlingclub.org.
