5/21/2014 1 Comment Meet the Club: Rich CollinsMeet the Curling Club of Virginia; meet Rich Collins! Rich is a founding member of the Club and our GNCC regional curling representative on the Board of Directors.
Rich was first introduced to curling in 2001 at an open house by a golfing buddy, and about 8 weeks later he was competing in his first bonspiel! In the past 13 years, curling has taken him all over the country — from Maine to Georgia, as well as Minnesota, Las Vegas, and Indiana for the inaugural USCA Arena Championships — and as far away as Russia. But the biggest trip has been down the aisle after he met his wife curling at a bonspiel in Maryland many years ago. One of his favorite things about curling is that it offers an opportunity to meet people from all over with different roles and backgrounds. As Rich explains, “Curlers are great people!” He also enjoys the competition of the sport, and the opportunity for teams– win or lose — to sit down and talk after the game. In addition to representing the club at the regional curling association, Rich also serves as the regional chair for the GNCC Arena Club Championship and was nominated for the 2012 USCA Volunteer of the Year. When he isn’t curling with his wife, Rich is a busy father to 4 future curlers. Come meet Rich and the Curling Club of Virginia at our next Learn2Curl event May 29.
